You can not go wrong with the price that is on this item right now. Although that could change at anytime. I think it would make a fun and interesting gift. It does actually zap the bugs. If they touch two wires at once it will spark, but the first spark does not always get them, for a bee or spider or something big you may need to zap them two or three times. Great if you can pin them up against something. I am not so sure you can accomplish anything if you were to swat them while they were flying. Sometimes there is a little bit of a burning odor. It could be a regular fly swater is more effective, but if you want to zap bugs and you want a portable bug zapper then go for it. It works fine with a minimum amount of effort.

This is the second product of this type I have owned--the first one was satisfactory but was broken in our household move. Both were very effective and convenient...a less messy way to remove a critter without smashing them on your walls or floor! This one is more powerful than the first and will render a Palmetto bug motionless (and lifeless) with one zap. A very good buy!

Not Enough of a Charge
I bought this because someone else reviewed it, saying that it was powerful enough to take out a Florida Palmetto Bug. 4 zaps and that Bug was still running around like he had a cup of coffee. Of course this Bug was about three inches long with a hard cockroach-y shell, but, that's why I bought it! For the big 'uns! So I'm disappointed in the product.

Don't waste your money
Although they appeared to be working (they glowed, and we'd hear the occasional ZAP) it didn't take 6 months before one of them completely stopped glowing, and they made no dent at all in the mosquito population - the reason we bought them. Not worth it at all.
Bug Zapper
I was hoping for something with more power to actually zap the bugs but this one does not. I even purchased two sets. The light does cause the bugs to swarm around it but it does not have enough power to actually kill the bugs.
When it is on the light setting it isn't enough light to even guide you along a path. I am very disappointed in it.
We will be purchasing an electric bug zapper soon to replace these.

At first glance, this candle has a lot going for it. In particular, it is interesting looking and self-extinguishing. It is, however, also cumbersome to use and messy. The coil is less pliable than it needs to be for ease of use while candle drippings coat the coiled candle and/or fall to the ground for a messy clean-up task. I have not used it enough to know whether it is as effective as other citronella candles but suspect that its modest size may limit its effectiveness.

Makes killing flies fun
Sure wish they had invented this when I was a kid. User has to be coordinated, the flies seem to know what it is. Very cool when it zaps a fly, you hear an snap and the fly is stunned below, Then you have to finish off the fly. Great for mosquitos.

These are nice, they make mosquitos POP when you zap them.
However, if you're one of those who likes to have fun when you kill bugs, get one with either C or D batteries. They carry MUCH more power and will kill things like Cockroaches which AA battery-powered swatters will not.

Useless for mosquitoes, poor battery life, even poorer lamp life
I purchased one of these to deal with the pervasive fall mosquitoes. It seemed like a wonderful unit, very decorative, and with a built in battery so it could be placed anywhere for some time without power.
I found it be useless for mosquitoes. In a two week period, where I was stung plenty of times, it zapped 1 mosquito. Additionally the battery life was pretty poor, not more than a few hours.
After approximately 3 months, the lamp stopped working altogether.
So in short, if you want a 3 month long decorative blue light in a nice green case with a faux blue safety cover, buy it. Otherwise, move along.
